The Circus On Ice Captures The Limelight At Sharjah Water Festival

SHARJAH, December 17, 2011

The Sharjah Water Festival 2011 continues to attract thousands of visitors from across the UAE and beyond.  The response to the daily shows at Al Majaz Park, the main venue overlooking Buheirah Corniche, has been overwhelming, thanks to the novelty of fun and entertainment offered by the SWF 2011 that runs up to December 23.  Sharjah has been keen to add new shows and features to the SWF every year.  And the chief attraction and crowd puller this year clearly is the Circus on Ice.

The Circus on Ice is being hosted for the first time in the UAE and the region by the Sharjah Water Festival, organized by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority for the fifth consecutive year.  One of the best and most well attended shows, the Circus on Ice is performed daily from 8.30 to 10pm.

The Circus on Ice is well known worldwide and has performed in all big European cities and around the world. The Circus on Ice, a unique presentation invented in Russia, offers all the fun of regular circus with the added excitement of those impossible performances taking place on ice.

The Circus on Ice, presented by young director of the troupe, Yana Schevchenko, features all circus art genres --  very complicated combinations of acrobatic jumps over the skipping rope, jugglers with Indian clubs, illusion, equilibrists on unicycles, aerial gymnasts, choreographic compositions, acrobats with Rheine wheels, and eccentrics.  The Circus on Ice has won world-wide acclaim.  The circus team is composed of 35 artists that present best creative shows on an ice arena built specially for Sharjah shows.

The Skating on Ice is performed with special light-and-sound effects mixed with colours and smoke. The most breath-taking of all the performances is the one performed with fire rings.  Another remarkable Circus on Ice performance has two performers skating on ice while they change more than 10 dresses within minutes accompanied by foot-tapping music.

The Sharjah Water Festival shows open daily at 4pm at Al Majaz Park and run until midnight.  More than 20 shows are on offer including the renowned Irish Dance Show, Yo Yo People, The Colorful Boxes show, Pets Magic, Skating on Ice and many others. Show tickets are available at Al Majaz Park entrance and in all big malls around Sharjah.

Meanwhile Sharjah was all decked up on Friday for the big thriller of the final race of the UIM F1H2O Pewerboat Championship, the Sharjah Grand Prix, on Khaled Lagoon.  HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, formally flagged off the race at 4pm as thousands lined up along the Buheirah Corniche to watch the action.   Team Abu Dhabi’s Ahmed Al Hameli and Thani Al Qamzi finished first and second in the Sharjah Grand Prix for the second consecutive year.  Phillipe Sharp from China stood third.
