Philips Deliver Free Health Checks At Najah

Abu Dhabi, 19 October, 2011: Young job-seekers and university graduates visiting NAJAH to enhance their career and education opportunities are being offered another boost in the form of free healthcare checks.

Royal Philips Electronics, exhibiting at NAJAH to recruit graduates for their newly launched internship programme, has a specially designed health check booth at their stand, where medical professionals from Lifeline Hospital will educate visitors on preventative care by offering free, simple health checks.

Philips has introduced the booth this year at NAJAH to educate young people about health risks such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, which according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), is the number one killer in the GCC region.

The checks will be available for the duration of the exhibition which runs until 9pm on Thursday 20 October at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

“Philips is committed to improving people’s lives by extending its knowledge and raising public awareness on prevailing diseases in our region, such as obesity and diabetes,” said Harjit Gill, Chairman of Philips Middle East.

“The UAE has one of the highest prevalence rates of diabetes in the world, currently 20 per cent, compared to the world average of 6 per cent, leading to the fastest growing incidence of cardiovascular disease with its associated death rates (25 per cent).

“The series of tests measure Body Mass Index, sugar level, cholesterol, and blood pressure.  Performing these basic tests can help spot early warning signs of diabetes and heart problems, which are particularly prevalent in the region.”

NAJAH features more than 130 employers, education providers and training institutions looking to meet with the thousands of young Emiratis contemplating their future career direction and educational aspirations.

The popular three-day Education and Careers Forum is back offering UAE school and university students advice from regional and international experts.  The third day of the forum (Thursday) will feature a special presentation on higher education in Malaysia, delivered by Mr. Zainal Haji Tik, Vice President of Taylor’s University College in Malaysia.

Now in its fifth year, NAJAH has secured UAE Presidential Guard as diamond sponsor. Other sponsors include ADNOC, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), Alhosn University, Ajman University, and Zayed University. Official supporters include the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Emirates Nationals Development Programme, AIESEC, Dubai International Academic City, and Tanmia.

Thursday 20 October is the last day of NAJAH at ADNEC, with extended opening hours from 10:00am to 9:00pm. Up to date information on the exhibition can be found at www.facebook.com/NAJAHonline or www.najahonline.com.
