Findings From Gemalto At The Citizen ID Forum 2010

Abu Dhabi ,5 May 2010, Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, presents its main findings from the Citizen ID Forum held at the Beach Rotana Hotel on 3-4 May.

Pierre Servettaz, Vice President of Government Programs and General Manager of Gemalto Middle East, was present at the event and commented 'This year at the Citizen ID Forum, we were delighted to see that the industry is still booming.  Now mature, we were heartened at the way the industry is moving towards more comprehensive and innovative services, all aimed at allowing citizens and residents to benefit from the latest product and service developments.'

Interest in the products and solutions remained high and Eric's speech generated plenty of interest as it focused on different implementations both in the region and worldwide:

·         The successful implementations of e-ID, both in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world have robustly delivered citizen benefits, such as secured eGovernment transactions, protection of personal data and greater convenience, demonstrating the potential of e-ID systems.

·  The capability of smart cards to deliver not only basic but also innovative, sophisticated and robust facilities has been demonstrated.

·  The security of smart cards used for e-ID is of the highest priority to the suppliers and justifies confidence that the technology is more than adequate to the task.

·  The applications and data in the smart card have the capability to be updated remotely after its issuance to citizens and is therefore a flexible tool for delivering innovative benefits to citizens such as ePurse, eGov and eVoting applications.

Gemalto remains committed to the region with teams in Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Cairo and Riyadh, with its regional headquarters in Dubai.  This reinforced presence is part of our ongoing strategy to deliver innovative identity solutions to the market.
