Bridge Connecting Hazaa Bin Zayed Street And Al Reem Island Now Open

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 27th June 2010. The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police GHQ- Traffic and Patrols Directorate announced the opening of the bridge connecting Hazaa Bin Zayed Street to Al Reem Island. Vehicles travelling from Al Reem Island going inbound Abu Dhabi can now access the bridge. The bridge opening will serve oncoming traffic from Al Reem Island going to different areas in Abu Dhabi via Hazza Bin Zayed Street. This bridge is still part of the development Al Salam Street and the Eastern Ring Road.

The 700m bridge includes four lanes in each direction, and with an estimated capacity of 7,000 vehicles per hour inbound and outbound. It is expected to shorten travel time from and to Al Reem Island. Meanwhile, the opposite side is expected to open access to traffic from Hazza bin Zayed Street going towards Al Reem Island in the middle of next month.

The municipality has recently implemented some detours at Al Salam Street intersections with Streets No. 25 and 29 to pave the way for the construction of surface and bypass roads within the area. Traffic signals in both directions were removed to allow free flowing traffic both inbound and outbound the city. The left lane and U-turn access at the said intersections were closed both inbound and outbound Abu Dhabi.

Al Salam Street Project is a result of the coordination between the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Urban Planning Council, Department of Transport and General Command of Abu Dhabi Police. The project falls under the initiative of the municipality to contribute to the development of the city, and establish Abu Dhabi's position as a truly modern metropolis on par with the best in the world.

The mega infrastructure project is part of the municipality's strategic aim to meet the requirements of a developing city, as well as respond to the needs of the growing population. Furthermore, the municipality's efforts are directed towards securing an advanced network of infrastructure and transportation facilities to achieve the highest level of road system efficiency in Abu Dhabi.
