5th IEEE UAE Student Day

AUST engineering students have stolen the show during this year’s IEEE UAE Student Day.

This yearly event is a platform for engineering students all over the UAE to showcase their creativity and skills in developing projects related to their specialization. Attendees to the 5th IEEE UAE Student Day, which was organized by the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi on 8th May 2010, included faculty, industry professionals and students from the UAE higher education institutions.

The event is a most solicited rendezvous for all engineering students to compete in various categories, interact with students and faculty from other participating universities and discover potential employers. This year’s event attracted students and faculty from 11 universities, namely, the UAE University, AUS, AUD, PI, AUST, University of Sharjah, Mahe Manipal, BITS, Michigan State University - Dubai, KUSTAR - Sharjah and KUSTAR – Abu Dhabi.

Six faculty members and 35 students from the Electrical Engineering Department represented Ajman University of Science & Technology and participated in five different categories of competitions:
1. Common Design (1 Team)
2. Community Service (2 Teams)
3. Software Design (2 Teams)
4. Senior Design (2 Teams)
5. Engineering Game Design (2 Teams)

A total of 9 teams from AUST participated, of which 6 teams won prizes:
?  1st Prize of AED 1500 in Common Design Project
?  2nd Prize of AED 1000 in Community Service Competition
?  2nd Prize of AED 1000 in Software Design Competition
?  3rd Prize of AED 500 in Senior Design Project Competition
?  3rd Prize of AED 500 was a tie between both AUST teams for Engineering Game Design Project Competition

AUST was the only university to have winners in every category and to win the highest number of prizes. AUST students and faculty members were extremely thrilled and satisfied for being recognized on a national level for their hard work and efforts. They have expressed deep gratitude for AUST President, H.E. Dr. Saeed Abdullah Salman for providing modern facilities and supporting such activities as well as for the College Dean, Prof. Fahar Hayati for his constant support and encouragement.
