The 200 year old Al Maqta Fort served as a watch tower against invading bandits, now a cherished testament to the emirate’s history. This fort is visible when approaching Al Maqta Bridge linking Abu Dhabi Island with the mainland.
The fort was built to protect and keep a close watch on the surrounding area and the waters. The fort has been carefully restored and houses a tourism information centre. It is a stark contrast to the modern Maqta Bridge sitting alongside it.
